Krista Power is an Associate Professor at the School of Nutrition Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences and is cross-appointed with Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, at uOttawa. Dr. Power’s main research goals are to investigate the role of diet in the cause and prevention/treatment of chronic disease. Her team evaluates the impact of different dietary patterns (western-style high fat and plant-based diets) on the development and treatment of intestinal diseases (i.e., Inflammatory Bowel Disease), metabolic diseases (i.e., Obesity), and Mental Health (i.e., Anxiety, Depression). Additionally, her team explores the role of the gut microbiome in mediating the impact of diet on disease outcomes to identify potential targets for health promotion. Importantly, Dr. Power has identified foods (Pulses, Flaxseed, Asparagus) with gut-health promoting potential which uniquely alters the microbiota and reduces disease risk.
