Name
Closing session and talk - Future dementia: The role of frailty and its management in the prevention and treatment of late-life cognitive decline.
Date & Time
Friday, October 14, 2022, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Howard Chertkow
Description

Even though most cases of dementia are diagnosed after age 75, much dementia research still considers only one protein abnormality at a time.  That is unrealistic: the sharp association with age implicates aging itself is dementia. The consequences of this include: can we use medications that might slow the rate of ageing to prevent or manage dementia? If prevention is possible, will that be the same as having no cognitive impairment? If people live longer, will that just mean that they get dementia later?  Can’t we die healthier?

PS: It’s not just correlation.
